Job Description:

Full-time Teachers needed for the Grand Island & Hastings Head Start for the 2026-2027 school year. Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required. Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a teaching certificate preferred. Bilingual applicants highly encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities

The Teacher is responsible for the education of children and management of the classroom environment to implement the goals of the Head Start Program, in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Teachers must be able to become partners with parents by involving them in the educational development of their children. The Teacher is responsible for promoting a team environment, and working effectively with Specialists, Area Coordinators, Para-Professionals, volunteersparents, and other employees.

  • Assess the developmental level of each child in the class relying upon parental input, classroom observation and the results of screening and testing.
  • Refer any children who may have developmental and/or behavioral delays to the Early Childhood Specialist and other appropriate Specialists.
  • Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent teacher conferences with parents. Complete required paperwork that is associated with the home visits and conferences.
  • Enter GOLD observations resulting in a minimum of one anecdote per child per item each period.
  • Supervise Assistant Teachers and Para-Professionals including assigning work tasks, ensuring appropriate interactions with children, completing performance appraisals, approving PTO request and addressing performance concerns. Complete staff documentation as needed.

Job Description:

Part-time Food Service/Cleaning Assistant needed for the Nuckolls County Head Start for the 26-27 school year, located in Superior NE. This is a part-time position, 24 hrs/wk, $15.00/hour.

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for preparing varied, nutritious and attractive meals for participants in various Programs. The Food Service Assistant is also responsible for the serving of food and cleanup of the serving area and kitchen facilities after meals. The Janitorial Assistant is responsible with the care and cleaning of the physical facility utilized by Head Start and other programs of the organization.

Paid Time Off, 401K, and training opportunities are available. Must have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 19 years of age. Experience preferred in the food service industry.

Job Description:

Full-time, head cook needed for the Hastings Head Start for the 26-27 school year. Wage is $16.46 per hour. 40 hours per week throughout the school year and for one month during the Summer for summer school program. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.

Job Responsibilities

The Head Cook is responsible for overseeing the preparation of varied, nutritious and attractive meals for participants in various programs, including Head Start, and Early Head Start. The Cook is also responsible for overseeing the cleanup of serving areas and kitchen facilities after meals.

Job Description:

Part-time Maintenance worker needed for the southern counties. This position would require traveling between our southern county sites to complete or assist with projects and maintenance as needed. The sites are located in Superior, Clay Center, Franklin, and Red Cloud. Company vehicle will be provided for travel. This position is estimated to be 10 hours per week but could vary. Flexible position with opportunity to work evenings and weekends if needed. Must have a GED or High School Diploma and be at least 19 years of age. Must be able to pass MVR and must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Job Responsibilities

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the care and maintenance of the physical facilities, organization’s vehicles utilized by the Head Start and other programs of the organization.

  • Maintain outdoor areas including cleaning gutters, maintenance of sprinklers, snow removal and lawn maintenance for facilities.
  • Complete minor repairs of the facilities as needed.
  • Change light bulbs, maintain lighting fixtures and light switch covers.
  • Assist in assembly and setup of furniture, fixtures, play structures and similar items as needed.
  • Make sure that all floors are kept in a clean and safe condition, with major cleanings and repairs as needed throughout the year based upon type of floor and usage.
  • Maintain parking lots and playgrounds, including removal of accumulated trash and check of the condition of play equipment and play areas.

Job Description:

Home Visitor needed for the Grand Island Head Start program, vehicle provided for visits.

Full-time position, year round, Wage is $18.07/hr. $19.07/hr for individuals with a degree in Early Childhood Education.

An Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicant must be bilingual- English and Spanish or English and Arabic.

This individual will demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Birth to Five, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate, and to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families. The successful applicant will have the ability to be an advocate for families and provide appropriate input to aid in decision-making. This position requires an individual who is comfortable visiting the homes of low income families, and is sensitive to individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain contact with assigned Head Start/Early Head Start families, including phone contacts, parent conferences, and home visits. Meet with families in their homes on a regular basis and maintain regular contact with each assigned family, in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Ensure family assessments are completed and families have ongoing family goals based off of the family assessment promoting self-sufficiency and the Family Engagement Outcomes.
  • Become knowledgeable of community and program resources available to families. Assist families with referrals to other community services to meet the family’s basic needs and provide information to educate families in the areas of child safety, child development and health issues, as well as any other issues of concern to parents.
  • Enter GOLD observations weekly resulting in one anecdote per child per item each period. Finalize GOLD at the end of each period and analyze data for each EHS child.
