Job Description:

Head Start is seeking employees to join a fun work atmosphere in our family oriented program!!

Full-time, head cook needed for the Hastings Head Start. Wage is $16.46 per hour. 40 hours per week throughout the school year and for one month during the Summer for summer school program. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.

Job Responsibilities

The Head Cook is responsible for overseeing the preparation of varied, nutritious and attractive meals for participants in various programs, including Head Start, and Early Head Start. The Cook is also responsible for overseeing the cleanup of serving areas and kitchen facilities after meals.

  • Prepare meals in accordance with the requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Meals should be presented in a family style, with consideration given to the ethnic food preferences of Program participants.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment in the dining and kitchen areas. This includes wiping off counters, food preparation surfaces, tables and chairs with disinfectant solution, and sweeping and mopping kitchen and dining room floors.
  • Maintain all required information and accurate records, including those necessary to meet requirements of the CACFP and SFSP. Communicate any concerns regarding nutritional issues to the Nutrition Coordinator or Program Director(s), and share relevant nutritional and dietary information with appropriate staff.
  • Assist in the supervision of food service staff, including volunteers
  • Purchase food and supplies as needed from approved vendor and area food bank. This would include ordering supplies for the upcoming school year.

Job Description:

Head Start is seeking employees to join a fun work atmosphere in our family oriented program!!

Full-time 30-34 hours/week, Program Support needed for the Superior Head Start, $14.93/hr. Office will be located in Superior. The position will cover both Nuckolls and Clay county. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Year round position.

Job Responsibilities

The program support position requires an individual with strong administrative and organizational skills. Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are critical. The successful applicant must have significant computer experience, including word processing, with database and spreadsheet experience preferred. Job assignments will vary, and the position requires an individual able to accept instruction and implement projects from a variety of employee without constant supervision. The successful applicant will be sensitive to issues affecting children and families, including disabilities, and must be able to relate well to individuals with widely varying backgrounds.

  • Make written or phone contact with employee of other organizations, families and other participants to set up meetings, screenings and other coordinated activities.
  • Provide support as needed for program activities, both during regular work hours and outside of regularly scheduled hours. Support for activities may include transportation, child care assistance, distribution of materials and translation assistance (if applicable).
  • Prepare, maintain and update necessary databases for program information management. Effectively utilize database information to prepare needed reports and documentation.
  • Enter In-Kind into Child Plus and turn in for the month by the 1st week of the following month.

Wage is $14.93 per hour with a $1.00 pay differential for those with an A.A. in ECE Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Preferred.

Bilingual applicants are highly encouraged to apply.

The Para-Professional is responsible for working in a team environment to assist the Teacher and classroom employees in providing support for educational activities, meals, classroom management, and other classroom activities in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Utilize developmentally appropriate classroom activities for children.
  • Encourage parents to participate in the program in a variety of ways that fit their skills and time. Collect in-kind related to this participation.
  • Enter GOLD observations resulting in a minimum of one anecdote per child per item each period.
  • Assist families in a variety of ways including but not limited to; connecting with resources, making referrals, sharing information about their child’s day, translating documents, and interpreting.

Part-time Food Service Assistant needed for the Grand Island Head Start.  This is a part-time position, 28 hrs/wk.

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for preparing varied, nutritious and attractive meals for participants in various Programs. The Food Service Assistant is also responsible for the serving of food and cleanup of the serving area and kitchen facilities after meals.

Job Description:

Head Start is hiring a part-time bus driver for both our Grand Island and Hastings locations for the 25-26 school year. Applicant must have a CDL and meet all bus driver requirements. Must have or be willing to get Level 1 Training/School Bus Endorsement and Passenger Endorsement. Various route times available. Position is 12-20 hours per week. Applicant must have High School Diploma or GED.

The Bus Driver is responsible for safe and timely transportation of students.

  • Provide transportation to students enrolled in the Head Start program following all agency, local, state, and federal transportation guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety of all students through the use of child restraint devices, as appropriate
  • Abide by Head Start Program standards of conduct for employees, including: respect for and promotion of the unique identity of each participant; adherence to confidentiality policies; insuring that no child is left alone or unsupervised; and using positive methods of child guidance.
