Job Description:

Bilingual Home Visitor needed for the Grand Island Early Head Start program. Agency vehicle will be provided for traveling to visits.

Full-time position, year round, Wage is $18.07/hr. $19.07/hr for individuals with a degree in Early Childhood Education.

An Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicant must be bilingual speaking English and Spanish or English and Arabic. 

This individual will demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Birth to Five, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate, and to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families. The successful applicant will have the ability to be an advocate for families and provide appropriate input to aid in decision-making. This position requires an individual who is comfortable visiting the homes of low income families, and is sensitive to individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain contact with assigned Head Start/Early Head Start families, including phone contacts, parent conferences, and home visits. Meet with families in their homes on a regular basis and maintain regular contact with each assigned family, in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Ensure family assessments are completed and families have ongoing family goals based off of the family assessment promoting self-sufficiency and the Family Engagement Outcomes.
  • Become knowledgeable of community and program resources available to families. Assist families with referrals to other community services to meet the family’s basic needs and provide information to educate families in the areas of child safety, child development and health issues, as well as any other issues of concern to parents.
  • Enter GOLD observations weekly resulting in one anecdote per child per item each period. Finalize GOLD at the end of each period and analyze data for each EHS child.

Job Description:

Full-time Teacher needed for the Hastings Head Start. Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required. Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a teaching certificate preferred. Bilingual applicants highly encouraged to apply.

Wage: $44,437 salary for Bachelor/Master Degree Teachers

Wage: $21.11 per hour for Associate Degree Teachers

Job Responsibilities

The Teacher is responsible for the education of children and management of the classroom environment to implement the goals of the Head Start Program, in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Teachers must be able to become partners with parents by involving them in the educational development of their children. The Teacher is responsible for promoting a team environment, and working effectively with Specialists, Area Coordinators, Para-Professionals, volunteersparents, and other employees.

  • Assess the developmental level of each child in the class relying upon parental input, classroom observation and the results of screening and testing.
  • Refer any children who may have developmental and/or behavioral delays to the Early Childhood Specialist and other appropriate Specialists.
  • Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent teacher conferences with parents. Complete required paperwork that is associated with the home visits and conferences.
  • Enter GOLD observations resulting in a minimum of one anecdote per child per item each period.
  • Supervise Assistant Teachers and Para-Professionals including assigning work tasks, ensuring appropriate interactions with children, completing performance appraisals, approving PTO request and addressing performance concerns. Complete staff documentation as needed.

Head Start is seeking employees to join a fun work atmosphere in our family oriented program!!

Full-time, preschool Para-Professionals needed for Grand Island Head Start. 40 hours/week. Wage is $15.13 per hour with a $1.00 pay differential for those with an A.A. in ECE. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Preferred. Benefits include paid time off and on going training opportunities available.

Job Responsibilities

The Para-Professional is responsible for working in a team environment to assist the Teacher and classroom employees in providing support for educational activities, meals, classroom management, and other classroom activities in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Utilize developmentally appropriate classroom activities for children.
  • Encourage parents to participate in the program in a variety of ways that fit their skills and time. Collect in-kind related to this participation.
  • Assist families in a variety of ways including but not limited to; connecting with resources, making referrals, sharing information about their child’s day, translating documents and interpreting.
